The strong influence of JaNeil’s rural upbringing is reflected in her paintings. She prefers detailed work of people playing or working.  "Variety is an important key to creativity so I paint whatever interests me,” JaNeil said. She cannot imagine not being able to paint.

JaNeil now lives with her husband, Walt, on their third-generation cattle ranch on the Gila River in Southwest New Mexico.
